The Pillars of Perth Modern
Where should we focus?
During my fifteen years of observing this work in action plus data from The Buzz Diagnostic* and other evidence-based research, I discovered three pillars are the foundation for a thriving collaborative culture:
- A collective growth mindset that expands our thinking individually and collectively. MIND
- A compelling environment in which we are drawn to learning together, due to the processes, protocols and energy we bring to the table and the incidental moments we create. MOMENT
- Authentic dialogue where we focus on discussing the things that help us expand our impact on student learning. MOUTH
When these three come together, the mind, the moment and the mouth, we create psychological safety for learning, focus on the right things and build forward momentum.

The resources: The Buzz Collaborative Culture Indicators Assessment is helpful to guide you towards to co-creating the behaviours that build this culture.
Where do you see your strengths as a collective?
Where are your areas for development?
Use both the ‘Assessing’ checklist and ‘Strengths and Still in Construction’ sheet to discuss your current reality and where you want to shift towards.
This may be a good time to either undertake the Buzz Diagnostic, or re-visit your results, using the explanatory video found here and in the resources section.
Do the results surprise you? Where do you believe the areas of work are?
You could use the Venables’ Notice and Wonder Protocol outlined in the Environment – Processes and Protocols video to unpack your thinking.
